Mission of Hope

Mission Of Hope Web Site

The Mission of Hope provides food, clothing, hygiene items, and new toys to over 16,000 children and family members in rural Appalachia where available jobs are very few and the needs are many. Central Baptist Bearden sponsors two Mission of Hope schools in Leslie County, KY. They are Mountain View (formerly Hyden) Elementary and Hayes Lewis Elementary. Responsibilities:

We sponsor approximately 50 of the most needy families in our two schools. We provide them with clothing for adults and children who are not elementary school age and household items (i.e. dishes,cleaning products, and linens).They provide new clothing and a new winter coat to 25% of the school's enrollment.

Opportunities to help at our church:

At Central Baptist Bearden you or your class can purchase shoes and socks for a needy child.  You or your class can provide a family's Christmas needs/wishes.   You can assist with our school delivery  trips.   Information about the families' and children's Christmas needs  is available by contacting Judith Mynatt 769-1427 judithmynatt@aol.com           

Opportunities to help at the Mission of Hope:
You can work at the warehouse answering phones, sorting donations or loading/unloading trucks.

2009 Calendar
November 5    Mission of Hope's Annual Fund Raising & Celebration Banquet at Rothchild's Catering.  Everyone is welcome.  Reservations are needed.
December 6    Family boxes, shoes & socks are due in the Missions Area at our church.

Central's Two Schools

Hyden is moving into a new facility in October 2009. 
The new school is Mountain View Elementary.

           
Located in the Eastern Coal Fields of Kentucky and in Leslie County, Mountain View (formerly Hyden) and Hayes Lewis Elementary Schools houses classrooms, libraries, gyms, cafeterias, all-purpose rooms and Headstart.  The dedicated staffs consists of classroom teachers, media specialists, special education teachers, Speech teachers, Reading Recovery teachers, teacher's assistants, as well as a Headstart teachers and assistants, school secretaries, school nurses, cooks, janitors, and bus drivers. The schools offer after-school assistance, sports and academic extra-curricular activities.  The grounds include a large outdoor area and playground. Mountain View Elementary  enrollment is approximately 510, and Hayes Lewis Elementary enrollment is 140.   They serve students in grades Headstart through sixth grade.
