CHILE
The Chilean Baptist Convention is celebrating its Centennial Anniversary in January 2008. Baptist work began in the south of the country, coming from Argentina. Roy and Joyce Wyatt served as missionaries in Chile from 1963-1966, and then as missionary volunteers as professors in the Seminary in 1993-94 following their retirement. The Wyatts are returning to Chile in January for this celebration. They will lead two workshops on Care of the Terminally Ill during the meetings.
The Chilean Baptist Seminary is located in the city of Santiago and has both day and night classes. The students are basically from families which are financially challenged and many need scholarship aid. CBB has helped to provide scholarship aid on one occasion.
The Austral Baptist Camp in the southern part of the country serves a large area for encampments, study opportunities and other essential aspects of Baptist life. CBB joined them and a group from North Carolina who were going to help construct additional facilities for this camp by providing funds to help buy materials. Baptists of every age use the camp as well as evangelistic efforts among the unchurched are programmed from time to time. The camp has a special ministry in the lives of pastors who often live very isolated from one another and have opportunity to be together from time to time for study, training, inspiration and spiritual renewal.
